Job Loss

Losing a job as a pilot can be a challenging and distressing experience. Here are some coping strategies to help you navigate this difficult period: 

1. Allow yourself to grieve:

Losing a job can bring about a range of emotions such as sadness, frustration, or even anger. It’s important to acknowledge and process these emotions. Give yourself permission to grieve the loss and allow yourself time to heal. 

2. Seek support:

Reach out to your support network of family, friends, and fellow pilots. Share your feelings and experiences with them. They can offer understanding, encouragement, and possibly provide valuable insights or connections to help you explore new opportunities. 

3. Assess your situation:

Take stock of your skills, qualifications, and experience. Evaluate your options and consider if there are other aviation-related roles you can pursue or if you want to explore a career outside of aviation. Assess your financial situation and make a plan to manage your expenses during this transition period.

Utilise your professional network and connections to explore new job opportunities. Attend aviation industry events, join online forums or social media groups, and actively engage in networking activities. You never know where a potential opportunity might arise.
