Being a Partner

Connecting with your partner when you’re down route as a pilot can be challenging due to the physical distance and time zone differences. However, with effort and effective communication, you can maintain a strong connection. Here are some strategies to help you connect with your partner:

1. Regular communication:

Make communication a priority in your relationship. Set aside dedicated time to connect with your partner through video calls, phone calls, or messaging. Even if it’s a short conversation, regular contact can help you stay connected and bridge the physical distance.

2. Plan special moments:

Schedule virtual date nights or special moments with your partner. Set a specific time to have a shared meal, watch a movie together while video calling, or engage in activities that you both enjoy. Creating these intentional moments can help maintain a sense of togetherness and intimacy.

3. Share your experiences:

Keep your partner involved in your journey by sharing stories, photos, and updates about your experiences while down route. This allows your partner to feel connected to your work life and be a part of your adventures, even from a distance.

4. Support each other’s routines:

Support each other’s routines: Respect and support each other’s routines and commitments. Understand that your partner may have their own responsibilities and obligations while you’re away. Offer encouragement and show interest in their activities and achievements.

5. Surprise gestures:

Plan surprise gestures or thoughtful acts to show your partner you’re thinking of them. Send them a surprise package, leave a heartfelt note or message, or organise a surprise visit if feasible. These gestures can help strengthen your bond and create a sense of excitement and anticipation.

6. Express love and appreciation:

Regularly express your love and appreciation for your partner. Verbalize your feelings, send sweet messages, or write letters expressing your emotions. It’s important to let your partner know that they are cherished and valued, even when you’re not physically together.

7. Seek shared interests:

Find shared interests or hobbies that you can engage in despite the distance. This could be reading the same book, watching a TV series together, or participating in online activities or classes. Sharing experiences and discussing them can create a sense of connection and provide topics for conversation.

Remember, maintaining a strong connection requires effort from both partners. By prioritising communication, planning special moments, and expressing love and appreciation, you can nurture your relationship and stay connected even when you’re down route as a pilot.
